Patch is Collecting Questions for Obama and Romney's Next Debate

If you have a question for the candidates, submit it in the comments section below and it could be asked during the televised Oct. 16 Town Hall Presidential Debate.

If last Wednesday’s presidential debate left you with more questions than answers, here’s your chance to have the candidates to address the issues that most matter to you.

The next presidential debate will be a town hall meeting format at Hofstra University in Long Island, where voters will ask President Obama and Mitt Romney about domestic and foreign policy.

Patch is asking you, our readers, to participate by submitting questions for the candidates.

All you have to do is post your question in the comments section below and we’ll send it to the Commission on Presidential Debates. The commission is partnering with Patch's parent company, Aol, along with Google and Yahoo, to take questions from web users across the country.

Don’t wait until Nov. 6 to have a say in this year’s election. Share your thoughts in the comments.

Question... Why are congressman, their staff and yourselves, exempting yourselves from Obamacare?

Does Obama feel that as a President he is responsible for not having a budget passed in not one, not two, and in not even three years?
BTB October 08, 2012 at 03:07 PM
Actually... Obama is alive and well.

If government says that education is important to our future, then why does it keep cuting the budget for education and laying off teachers?
Theo Wells October 08, 2012 at 04:21 PM
America needs confidence. Dodd-Frank is some watered down act that will not guarantee that the financial meltdown will NOT happen again. We had investment and commercial banks separate. Why can't we return to that practice?
BTB October 08, 2012 at 04:59 PM
If you want to provide a good education to our American citizens, think about deporting all the illegals bleeding our system.

@ both candidates: 1) Do you believe in heavy goverment or governing for the people? 2) What are your views in preserving free enterprise and freedom to create and grow business? Please give examples why and how. 3) What are your views about "community begins at home" "keeping our own house in order before we branch out" (home/house meaning "country")? 4) Question 3 transfers to many subjects/issues, in particular our education. America is ranked #25 for our student performance in the world! Our universities offer international students a guaranteed job in America after graduation from a university. The international students a exempting our graduates from key American jobs in technology, the medical field and many other industries. Are you aware of this and what it means for the future generations of America relative to employment, middle class, economic growth, education ranking? And K-12 education, are we truly educating America's future voting class and preparing them to compete in our own universities? How will you "next Mr. President" fix this? 5) Please state and define the core values of America that were established by our founding fathers and elaborate on how you will perform to meet the expectations of America's originating core values.

My Important Question: "Hundreds of Thousands of Californians & Americans will still have their homes go to foreclosure or they'll be smart & work with their lenders on a short sale over the course of the next 4yrs since the Home Affordable Modification Program did not help 7 million borrowers as Mr. Obama had stated it would, since he doesn't have total control over private banking even with the insertion of bail out monies. It is safe to say that the last 4yrs is a strong indicator as to what the majority of struggling homeowners can expect in receiving viable loan modifications that make sense for them, in the long term. Homeowners experiencing job loss & struggling to make mortgage payments CANNOT then be hit with a tax burden on Phantom Income as well! What is your stance on extending the Mortgage Debt Forgiveness Act at least until the end of 2016?" I know that's a long question, but the most important part is Obama said the HAMP program would help 7 million struggling homeowners & the program has failed miserably & the MDFA needs to be extended to 2016. In Orange County, many homeowners in default are underwater by $200K+ & cannot afford after losing their homes to be hit with a tax burden based on their income tax rate on "income" they never actually received (phantom income) I think equity loans could be treated differently & taxed.

I have 2 questions: 1) Would you be willing to champion that all of congress and elected officials should be moved to the same health care system and medicare that everyone else is subject to instead of the sweetheart health care deal they now have? 2) Should the elected officials pension program be overhauled to more reasonable levels based on years of service in the elected domain?

The Romney family donates millions to charity each year, Vice President Biden and his wife make over a million dollars a year but for every year over the past 5 years donate less than $300 per years (all church donations, clothes, old furniture, etc.) is it that Biden thinks it's governments job while Romney thinks it's a personal responsibility?

How come we don't have total combustions engines which is simple turn timing down to zero increase spark plug to 45 gap increase air flow and you have total combustion with mileage up around 2000mpg and no smog equipment needed...there is no if and buts the question is why aren't we getting it....
BTB October 08, 2012 at 10:31 PM
to Holly... I want to pay your current Avg. Retail price/gallon gas in U.S. Where I live its an average of $4.85. And I love the point you made that in Jan. 2009 the average was $1.83. Guess that's part of the "CHANGE" thing the Messiah was talking about.

Will Obama give the Nobel Prize for Peace back since he personally selects in his ongoing drone war that he's led since just after taking the office, whom to kill from the kill list, and which I think is part of the radicalization of the area which can change this thirty year war into a hundred year one?
Gabrielle Block October 09, 2012 at 01:56 AM
Well Holly, if you really want to fix your data presentation, you should start by showing your data over an 8 to 10 year time period, instead of at just 2 points in time. And your little factoid about the national debt should compare the Obama administration to other recent 4-year time periods, instead of pretending that the whole period from 1789 through 2008 was all pretty similar. The way that you chose to present things is so misleading as to be almost meaningless, and tells us nothing about what the real problems are or what should be done to fix them.
Gabrielle Block October 09, 2012 at 01:58 AM
Shouldn't you ask the CEOs of the automobile companies about this, instead of the presidential candidates?
Carmelcat October 09, 2012 at 02:21 AM
For both candidates... What actions will you take to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions?
Judy October 09, 2012 at 03:53 AM
I would like to hear what they are going to do about illegal immigration. That is hurting all of our budgets
Holly Telford October 09, 2012 at 04:17 AM
What has Obama done to benefit our country since he has been in office? Just likea a CEO of a company or the manager of a baseball team if they do not produce results or perform to expectations they get fired.
MFriedrich October 09, 2012 at 05:15 AM
I really have two questions: 1. What specific and significant actions will you undertake to reduce the US national debt? 2. What specific and significant actions will you undertake to encourage all Americans to save more of their earnings (build capital)?
Yeparoo October 09, 2012 at 05:46 AM
#2 - Tell the public they are S.O.L. if they don't save more money. Nothing focuses the mind like a little fear. Actually, savings rates are increasing. How much capital are you thinking should be saved?
Lucie October 09, 2012 at 05:57 AM
1 i will start war on iran and say freedon and terrorism more important than det 2. to take third mortgages on homes and say republican are best
MFriedrich October 09, 2012 at 06:04 AM
Yeparoo, Intersesting answer. Except with the unprecedented frequency of quantitative easing by the Fed, you could save precisely all the US dollars the President tells us and STILL BE S.O.L. Hard to believe this but in 1988 when Reagan was finishing his 2nd term, you could actually earn 8% in a bank savings account. Let that number detonate in your mind for a second. Nine freaking percent. http://www.bankrate.com/brm/publ/passbkchart.asp In 2012, below shows the savings carrot dangled in front of American families. It's insulting. Banks are almost PAYING YOU to take on more debt rather than save. http://www.money-rates.com/savings.htm

People that study business do not understand economics! Please explain if plan A does not happen for you in life what is your plan b? Experince of job/career loss, savings depletion, or divorce.... how do you recover? What type of interest do you get from a savings account in our banks today to provide a nest egg? Nest eggs died hugely with lost jobs, lost homes and failed marriages as a result.....

Mr. Romney, during the 10/02/12 debate, the President pointed out that your healthcare plan does not address preexisting conditions beyond what the law currently provides employees moving from one job to another, you insisted that you do in fact have a plan for people with preexisting conditions. However, the next day, your campaign clarified by stating your plan was in fact to uphold existing laws - the ones protecting employees as they move from job to job (with each of those jobs offering health care). Now that you've had time to think about it, has your plan changed to address ALL people - not just those with jobs that offer healthcare - with preexisting conditions or do you believe that it's not enough of an issue to address? You have also stated that people that can't be helped by your plan will have to turn to the states for help. However, you promise that as President you will decrease funding of Medicaid and that you will to allow insurance companies to offer insurance across state lines. How do you reconcile sending people to the state while decreasing funding to the states and reducing or eliminating their oversight of insurance companies?
A. True Moderate October 10, 2012 at 04:39 PM
A question for Mitt Romney: Earlier in your campaign you stated you would repeal Obamacare, then recently you stated that you would keep the popular positions. The popular components can not be funded without the mandate so how do you propose to do this without increasing the deficit? Answer this specifically. And answer SPECIFICALLY which loopholes would you go to congress to repeal to pay for your 20% across the board tax cuts.
