Hundreds Turn Out for Carnival Fundraiser at Canyon Vista Elementary

Dozens of families enjoy cotton candy, games of skill, live music and thrill rides at spring fundraiser.

Volunteers, teachers and staff from Canyon Vista Elementary School raised $25,000 at this spring's Under the Big Top carnival in Aliso Viejo on April 15th.

Profits will go to the school's PTA--which pays for Canyon Vista's Art Masters Program, along with music, field trips, science programs, supplies and more--according to carnival co-chair and PTA member Ursula Heenan.

Dozens of families turned out on the warm spring afternoon to enjoy the carnival's games, rides, tasty treats and variety of music.

"We had an amazing amount of support from the volunteers, families, room moms, teachers, vendors and sponsors," said Heenan. "I'd like to offer special thanks to the carnival committee who worked on this fundraiser for over eight months."

Members of the CVES carnival committee included Elina Faulkner, Dana Greger, Darcy Troplia, Terri Crones, Maria Lindholm and Heenan.

"And a special thanks to PTA President Tiffany Chahine, who dressed up as a clown every day after school to promote ticket sales," Heenan added. "Thanks to all the families. Without their help, this could have never happened. The vendors and sponsors were amazing and they have our eternal gratitude."

Rock music was provided by The WhipLash Kids Band. And a fantastic Polynesian musical and dance show was provided by Le Polynesia Cultural and Performing Arts Center. Fifth-grade teacher Christina Cunningham said the Polynesian show was done free of charge, thanks to fellow teacher Lori Montgomery, who co-owns Le Polynesia with her husband, Guy.
