Preschool Closes at Wood Canyon Elementary

Meanwhile, the school district opens a new preschool in Laguna Niguel.

A preschool program in Aliso Viejo is closing, while a new one begins in Laguna Niguel.

The preschools are run by the Capistrano Unified School District. At Wednesday’s school board meeting, trustees voted 6-0, with Trustee Lynn Hatton absent, to approve a new preschool at George White Elementary in Laguna Niguel.

Meanwhile, another, at Wood Canyon Elementary in Aliso Viejo, is closing, said Julie Hatchel, assistant superintendent of elementary schools.

One class at the new White program will be state-funded. Two more classes will be available on a fee basis, Hatchel said. The new program is based on demand, she added.

“We have families that submit interest applications throughout the year,” Hatchel said. She expects some of the Wood Canyon families to make the drive to White program.
